A look into the past

When I was making the previous post, it occurred to me that I never made the planned post about Melanthe and Marcus and the way those two dolls sort of brought me and my girlfriend Sarg together. I shared some pictures of the two in this post and mentioned that I would tell more later, but then forgot to write about it on August when I was supposed to, oops... Now that I took some new photos of the couple and remembered the whole thing, I figured that I'd finally share the story. Better later than never? ^^;

It's weird to think that if I had never started this hobby, I probably wouldn't have met Sarg at all! Even though these might seem like just ordinary dolls to some people, they can be really important and meaningful to others :) Neither of us could really imagine how living without dolls would feel like, it has become more like a lifestyle to us.

But how did we meet? Things started sometime in the summer of 2011. Back then me and Sarg didn't know each other that well yet, we just followed each other on DeviantART and sometimes commented to each other. At some point I bought a red wig from Sarg and she was thrilled when I told her that it would be for my Soom Cuprit, which she admired a lot XD I also admired her Soom Hyperon. I added Sarg on MSN (rip <3) and we started talking more about our characters. We even sent some snail mail letters with some drawings and little presents. I was going to Helsinki to visit my parents and asked if we could meet :3

This is an old photo from August 2011 when we met for the first time and Marcus and Melanthe had their first "date" :D We took some photos of them in the botanical garden and after the photoshoot decided to officially pair these two together. Sarg introduced me to roleplaying as well, previously I had only written stories. RPing turned out to be really fun, more spontaneous and easier ^^

A few months later, in November, I decided to turn my Minette into their daughter, Marissa! ♥ Here's a picture from the first time Marcus saw her~ I had some bonding issues with the Minette sculpt when it still was another character, but after this character change I started to love her!

Around this time I also moved closer to Helsinki and we were able to meet more often :3

Later same month there was a meet-up in Helsinki that we both attended, so the little family was re-united ♥ Not the best photo, but the lighting wasn't that good - this still serves as a great memory from the meet-up~

In December, we participated in a Christmas calendar project together and one of our pictures was of Mel and Marcus under a mistletoe ;3; Since 2011 we've participated in this project together every year :)

Then in April 2012, Marcus and Melanthe got a second daughter when Sarg decided to bring home a Soom Yrie that was for sale in a local meet-up :D We took this photo (the sisters + Sarg) in a shopping center when some teenage boys made fun of us and asked if these are satanic dolls... Look at those cute SATANIC faces :''D

We've roleplayed with these characters quite a lot during the years and still find them inspiring, even though their looks have stayed pretty much the same. It's fun how these sculpts (Cuprit and Hyperon) are our grail sculpts and when we paired them together, they became even more special! ♥ We have quite many dolls now and our favorites among them vary from time to time, but Marcus and Melanthe remain as some of the dearest ones~

Now back to this day! (Or more like last Sunday, hahah...) Besides the Father's Day pictures of Marcus with his daughters, I also took some pictures of our lovely couple :3

We've always imagined that Marcus is a great dancer and likes especially Latin rhythms 8D Doesn't this picture look like Marcus is dancing with his wife and slightly bending her, like in tango? ♥

By the way, this red wig is the one that I bought from Sarg over 4 years ago XD The poor wig has been through a lot and Melanthe really needs a new wig... I hosted a group order to Leekeworld a few months ago when they had an event with some pre-order colors, including the most beautiful red shade ever! For some strange reason I still ended up not ordering any, instead I got two wigs for another doll u_u But now that Leeke started selling the cancelled quantity, I managed to snag a red wig for Mel~

  2. Ihana tarina teistä ja nukeista! ♥ Tällaisten tarinoiden jälkeen sitä aina rupeaa miettimään kohtalon olemassaoloa; ettei kaikki kohtaamiset voi olla vain pelkkää sattumaa!

    Haha, suloiset satanistinuket! X3

Kiitoksia <3 Nää on kyllä juuri tuommoinen vakiintunut höpö pariskunta~

  4. Ah really gorgeous photos of this adorable little family. I love how they are both styled and their children are so adorable. I love Soom Yrie. I can't believe how rude some members of the public are to doll people.

Marcus and Melanthe do really look like they are doing the tango in those photos. Appropriate being the dance of love.

Thank you for sharing your story. It's so great to learn more about how people met each other and found each other through this wonderful hobby. I also hadn't heard the term 'snail mail' in ages. It made me a little nostalgic. Remember the days when snail mail was the only option to keep in touch with people across the other side of the world? These days it's always email. I miss those days.

    1. Thank you :) Luckily most people have been quite supportive and positive towards the doll hobby, I've heard quite lovely comments from both strangers and family/relatives.

Maybe Marcus and Melanthe need a full tango photoshoot ;3 That might be a bit challenging though, but would be fun to try!

Oh yes, I tend to miss the snail mail days too... I remember how people were looking for penpals when I was a kid, but nowadays it's either email or chatting on FB etc. And there used to be really pretty envelopes and letter paper for sale as well, it feels like the selection is quite limited now :/

    1. Definitely, besides Sarg I've also gotten many wonderful friends through this hobby! ♥ I don't think I'd be so social and talk with many people daily, if it weren't for the doll people :p

Aww thank you dear~ And hahah I agree! Luckily the Idealian body is quite sturdy and keeps balance well, so Melanthe can lean on her husband a little bit for support if needed XD

    1. Thank you ^^ I've made many lovely friends through this hobby as well, I would've never expected how big community there is and how you can connect with people~

It's fun to look at some older photos from years ago. The faceups for Melanthe and Marissa have actually changed as well, the first versions looked quite horrible but there has been some evolving in my faceup skills, hopefully XD

  8. Aww, söpö tarina teillä! Minusta on tosi kiva kuulla juttuja, miten ihmiset tapaavat hieman erikoisemmissa merkeissä :).

  9. What a sweet story... it's really special that you both connect through your doll characters so, I'm happy for you two. :)

As to what comes to that red wig... are you sure you can replace it with a new wig since it carries so much nostalgia? ;)

Oh and yes, they look like they are dancing in the last pic~

    1. Aww thank you :) Dolls and characters can have such a big meaning~

Well... The red wig is quite nostalgic, but it's starting to be so dead that maybe it's the time to get rid of it :'D At least we have the photos as a memory and we'll always remember it!

  10. I love reading about stories like these! I'm happy that this hobby is able to connect you two together. Sorry, to hear about those rude teenager boys. t makes me sad when people do that, but I'm glad you didn't let them get to you. Love that last picture btw!

    1. Thank you x3 That comment from those teenage boys just amused us, it didn't really make us feel bad or anything. Still, I do wonder how some people can be so rude, you could keep comments like that to yourself...
I think that the last picture is my favorite too!
