A smiling arrival - DDS Millhiore F.Biscotti

Unless you follow me on Instagram, you probably don't know that I recently purchased a DDS Millhiore F. Biscotti head from the international DD forum :3 This head is one of my favorite DD molds and I couldn't pass on this great deal of getting just the head for a reasonable price! As I have no use or interest for the default clothes and getting a fullset for just the head would've been quite expensive, this was an amazing chance~ I've maybe gotten a bit hooked on Dollfie Dreams, hahah ^^;

I'm not familiar with the series this anime character is from (Dog Days), but I absolutely adore the smiling face of this head! It reminds me of my and Sarg's favorite Azone girl, Miu x3 I used to get a smile on my face just by looking at the pictures people have taken of Millhiore and now every time I look at my own girl, I also find myself smiling XD This mold seems to have such a positive vibe around her, I hope the pictures I take of her in the future make other people happy as well~

The head came with a custom faceup by hikaru132 and while it's adorable, I think that this girl will get a new faceup sometime later :3 (If only the MSC we have ordered would arrive someday... u_u;)

The same eyes that my Saber had in the previous post, since I don't have many DD eyes yet ^^; Millhiore's eye size is supposed to be 24mm, but this 22mm looks surprisingly good. I've ordered a pair of eyes in 24mm though, and once those arrive I get to decide which I prefer on her. I'm planning her eye color to be brown :3 I could've photoshopped the color in all these photos to look like what I had in mind, but these are just first test shots so I didn't bother...

Comparison with Susumi :) Here the color difference between normal and semi-white is quite noticeable and in person it's even bigger, so I thought I wouldn't be able to take pictures of this girl using Susu's body... But actually with a wig and some clothes the color difference doesn't really show much in photos, so I managed to get some test pictures!

I've decided to name my Millhiore as Ayane, Aya for short ♥ Some years ago I used to have a Soom Migma by the same name, but sold her due to bonding problems. While this girl will not be the completely same character, she has a similar personality and wears colorful/pastel clothes. Ayane means "colorful sound" in Japanese.

This is actually Ceci's Madoka cosplay wig, but looks so cute ;o; I wonder if Aya ends up stealing this... I'm still waiting on her own wig (also pink, but in a bit different shade), so I guess she can use this one at least for now ^^;

She thinks that the little My Melody plushie is very soft and huggable ;___; ♥

I'm really happy that I decided to buy her, I keep squeeing at her adorableness~ It would be fun to be able to take photos of Susu and Aya together (since they're friends), so I'll probably end up buying a DDS body for Aya pretty soon, at least if Volks ever re-stocks them X'D She'd also need a bunch of extra hands...

Tomorrow I'll be leaving to our cottage with my family, we'll be staying there for the weekend! I'm hoping that the snow still hasn't melted there and I could get some outdoor photos, but we'll see, I'm taking a few dolls with me just in case :3

Dreaming of spring

I took these photos on New Year's Day, but I had other things to blog about so time after time the sharing of this photoshoot was pushed back... Now I finally managed to finish editing the photos and thought that I'd make the post before I come up with something else again ^^;

While I'm quite happy to have some snow and to be able to take snowy photos, Susumi doesn't enjoy the cold weather at all and wishes that it would be spring already :'D She does have some winter gear on the way though and got a warm hat and mittens too, so maybe I manage to persuade her to go outside even once? Anyway, in this photos she has a fresh spring feeling going on~ The yukata actually belongs to Ceci, but it looks cute on Susu as well ♥ I might need to get some more Japanese traditional wear for my girls so that they don't have to fight over them... I'm trying so hard to have Susu stick to the mori style and wear only natural earth colors, like brown, beige and white, but she looks so cute in pastel colors as well that I can't resist >3< Maybe once I have more DD girls at home it'll be easier since another one can be the pastel color girl~

Saber Project, #1 Getting started

One thing that I mentioned in my goals for this year is making one of my all time favorite characters, Saber from Fate/stay night, as a custom Dollfie Dream ^^ This'll be a long-term project that might take a lot of time before being completed, but it'll be another fun thing to work on whenever I have the time and inspiration for it~ I thought it might be fun to show the progress and share my thoughts about this project every now and then :)

Obviously, Volks has released a Saber DD in pretty much all different versions, but the second-hand prices are insane and I just can't bring myself to pay that much, knowing that the original price has been a lot less. Also, none of the sculpts look like the perfect Saber in my vision. Volks' Saber sculpts don't have any special characteristic features and to me look a lot like some standard heads (DDH-07 and DDH-09), so I figured I'd try to create my own version :)

I bought a DDH-09 head that I could mod and customize to my liking without the fear of ruining a very expensive head that'd be hard to replace. I chose this head over the other option I had in mind (DDH-07) because after looking at various owner pictures, I felt like the 09 head would be more suitable for what I'm after. It has rounder face shape, but still doesn't look too immature. Volks' own Saber heads look a bit too baby-faced to me ^^;

I received the head some time ago, but I can't say much about it at this point... I'm still so new to DDs that I find it hard to imagine how the blank head will look with a faceup, it pretty much looks like an alien to me XD I need to wait for some MSC to arrive before Saber can get her faceup and I'm also still a bit unsure whether I'll try faceupping her myself or if I'll let Sarg do it for me... I guess we'll see about that after the MSC gets here :3

For now I only have Susumi's Dollfie Dream Sister body, but once I get Kasumi (DD Takane Shijou) home I'll also have a Dollfie Dream base body III, which is a bit taller than DDS, and Saber will be borrowing that for a while.

Finding the wig was easy, I just had to browse through Taobao and there was this wig precisely styled to look like Saber's hair! This same wig will work for almost all of her outfits, only Saber Lily has a different hair style and that one is available at the same Taobao store as well (in case I end up needing it as well).

I looked for suitable eyes as well, but didn't find ones that I'd be 100% happy with, so I decided to try out making my own eyes. I even looked at how to make urethane eyes, but thought that it might be a bit too challenging and handling all the chemicals scares me so I decided to take the safer route and go with acrylic eyes :) I ordered some eye bases from Ebay and once they get here, I can get started. Or actually, I can start designing the eyes on Photoshop earlier. I ordered the eye bases both in 22mm and 24mm, just to make sure that the eyes will fit perfectly and I can use the extras for making eyes for my other DD girls! DDH-09 head seems to have quite large, so I'm guessing that 24mm would work best for her. I only have a few pairs of 22mm eyes at home and they seem a bit too small.

I still haven't decided for sure, which of the dresses I'd like to make first. Saber Extra (red) and Lily (white) are my all time favorites, but lately I've been loving that gorgeous Alter dress as well... I guess it'll take a while before I can decide ^^;

There won't be any progress until I get all the stuff (MSC, eye bases, wig) home, but hopefully that won't take too long! I'm so excited and can't wait to be able to work on my Saber~ ♥

Desucon Frostbite 2016

Yay, we're still alive after the anime convention! XD This was our first time attending Desucon Frostbite, though we were at summer Desucon last year. It took a while to go through all the photos and edit them, but I'm finally done!

Like I mentioned in the end of my previous post, we traveled to the con by car with Tiinyan, her brother and her brother's friend. Right after getting to the con, we attended a meet-up where all kinds of dolls were welcome. Some of the people we knew previously, some we saw for the first time. We had fun! :3

I had Susumi and Miu with me :3 I also had Kirari (Pureneemo Maya), but didn't get a good photo of her... You can see her in the group picture below though :)

After the meet-up, we went to check the artist alley and sales tables. There were a lot of people u_u; But I feel like there were not as many sellers as last year? The selection of plushies was quite small, unless you were looking for a huge Arpakasso. I would've loved to buy a smaller one, but didn't see them at all :/ Though I shouldn't complain about it, since my wallet likes it better this way, hahah...

After that we spent some time eating and just chatting :) I was holding Susu for the whole day and it was fun how a few people came to me and asked if they could take a picture of her~

We had wanted to go listen to a lecture about religion in anime, but it was apparently more popular than anyone had thought and didn't have space for everyone, so we went to another lecture. This one was about a director Makoto Shinkai's work. I've seen some of the short films he has worked on and didn't like them very much, but this lecture really opened my eyes and made me realize that I had been looking at completely wrong things in those films! Usually characters and/or plot are an important factor for me in anime, but Makoto Shinkai's work concentrates more on the stunning backgrounds and art. I definitely need to re-watch some of his films at some point! The lecture was very inspiring.

At 4pm it was time for the cosplay competitions. First there were the preliminaries for ECG (European Cosplay Gathering), which had both solos and groups (2-3 people). Then there was a Hall of Cosplay competition where the attendants had been picked from the cosplaying convention visitors on the same day.

Unfortunately I couldn't get any decent photos of the cosplays this time :( However, all of the ECG performances can be seen on Youtube!

We were supposed to go back to the con on Sunday, but Sarg had an awful migraine and was feeling nauseous, so we both ended up staying home. I didn't want to go alone ^^;

We didn't find a lot of things to buy from the con - surprisingly this time our loot consisted of just a few art prints and some Dollfie Dream accessories.

This Metal Gear Solid print obviously caught Sarg's eye and she wanted it for her "beard gallery", as we call the section of our living room that has pictures of bearded video game characters (Snake, Geralt, Adam Jensen, etc.) :DD

A random, but still awesome find was this art piece - The Magician from Moomins! It even has the panther and King's Ruby XD

As for the DD things, Susu got a winter hat and a matching pair of mittens! ♥ These are from the artist alley as well, made by Pihlajakoto~

Susu also got mittens in pastel pink color for sweet lolita coordinates :) I found out just before the convention that I'd be getting another DD girl (Takane Shijou) soon, so I bought the pastel blue mittens for her~

I fell in love with this rainbow-colored hat, had to get it as well... ^^;

Susu's dress is made by me~ I started working on it little by little a week before the con and finished it just in time!

Overall, the con was great even though it was a bit short for us ^^ Next month there'll be another anime convention that we're attending, we're already looking forward to that~
