Spooky Halloween Monster Tag

I was tagged by Musume, you can read her post here!
I love Halloween related things and these questions are so much fun~ There's such a great idea behind them too - all the questions are based on a spooky creature/character, but are still related to dolls :D

***

Werewolf – How has the hobby “transformed” you?
I used to hate sewing and suck at it, but the dolls got me to love sewing and develop my skills little by little. If someone would've told me years ago that I would someday be sewing tiny corsets and other stuff, I wouldn't have believed them XD The hobby has also taught me to be more social and given me many great friends, who I would have probably never met otherwise. I find it hard to imagine how things would be now if I hadn't started the doll hobby, it has changed me a lot as a person and plays a big role in my life nowadays :)

Vampire – The dreaded sun! How do you feel about and cope with yellowing, or more generally the aging of these dolls?
The yellowing used to scare me quite a bit, but now I feel like it's not a problem as long as I take care of my dolls and don't expose them to sunlight, heat and heavy indoor light from lamps. I store most of my resin crew in a walk-in closet/tiny room, where there are no windows and we only turn on the lights for a brief moment if we go to get a doll out or search for some clothes/props etc. So they're stored in the darkness for most of the time and even when they're elsewhere in the apartment, we're really careful.

Frankenstein’s Monster – Have you ever modded a doll? Tell us about it! If you could magically try any mod without fear of failure, what would you like to try?
I've made longer nails for a few dolls using Epoxy. That is quite fun and other small mods like that would be okay for me, but I probably wouldn't have the courage for anything bigger myself. I'd ask help from Sarg if I ever needed to do a big mod project XD

Cressida and her nails~ Modded and painted by me :3

Zombie – Have you ever caught the Marketplace virus?? Name some unplanned purchases that jumped out and “infected” you?
On the BJD side, I'd say not really, unless you count dolls purchased directly from the company as being "infected" too :D There are some dolls that had no character before I saw the sculpt, fell in love with it and had to order... With Azones there are quite a few dolls that were not planned, but ended up here because they were just too cute to resist ^^;

Skeleton – What’s your favorite body sculpt? Forget heads!
As for females, I really like Iplehouse's bodies, especially the EID and nYID :) I also like the new Super Gem and the new Zenith body a lot. They are both really beautiful and have lovely hands.
Then for males, my absolute favorite is Soom Idealian72 body! ♥ If the male characters worked better for me, I'd love to have an army of them, but luckily Sarg has enough Idealian hunks for me to enjoy as well :D

Witch – Name some dolls that are magical! Seeing them on your dashboard inspires you! Can be general sculpts or specific dolls owned by talented friends?
There're so many dolls that inspire me that I couldn't possibly name just a few... One thing that I love is when I see a sculpt that I usually don't like turned into the most gorgeous thing ever! It reminds me how everything seems to be possible with just the power of faceups and gives me a lot of inspiration. I also love seeing photos with a story behind them, whether it's something character related or about something meaningful for the owner.

Ghost – The one that got away. Do any limited or rare dolls “haunt” you to this day?
I feel lucky since I've managed to find many of the limited/rare dolls that I originally missed, like Soom Asis, bronze Soom Vesuvia, DD Mariko and Azone Squirrel Chiika. At the moment the only existing doll that's "haunting" me a bit is Soom Mullu, there was even a chance to buy her from Soom recently, but I missed her since I didn't know that it was gonna be a click-war instead of the usual lottery thing u_u

I'm also hoping that Soom will someday release Cuprit in grey skin... All kinds of mermaid and fairy themed dolls tend to "haunt" me as well, there are many different kinds on the market and new ones coming all the time (like those new releases from Fairyland!).

Freddy Krueger – What is your worst doll nightmare? Has it happened or not?
One of my biggest nightmares would be that all my dolls get burned and destroyed in fire ;___; I'm generally afraid of them getting broken as well, especially since some of my dolls are limited releases that I might never be able to get my hands on again. Also, it may sound weird, but even if I managed to replace a doll by buying it again as the same sculpt, it wouldn't feel the same... When little Miu got broken, I could've just bought a new Picconeemo Miu, but instead I was determined to get her repaired since I felt like a new doll wouldn't be the same doll I had fallen in love with :(

Jason Voorhees – If you were gonna make Halloween costumes for your dolls (or if you plan to!) what costumes would you make?
We're actually planning to do a Halloween photoshoot with Sarg and we're most likely going to make some simple costumes for them, like witch, ghost, cat and fairy :)

Chucky (possessed doll) – Have you ever been scared of dolls or a certain doll? Be honest!
Well, we just recently watched the movie Annabelle and the dolls on that where creepy as hell, something I definitely wouldn't want anywhere near my house... :D And then there is that Circus Kane doll which has holes on its face, I seem to have Trypophobia since I find that doll quite terrifying... Oh and Eve Studio has made a spider BJD, I'm terrified of spiders so that's quite scary too XD

  1. Ooooh thank you for the tag. You know my weakness for these! I'm definitely looking forward to answering these questions.

I love Iplehouse bodies especially the ones you've listed. They have such beautiful aesthetics for their dolls. They just scare me a bit because of how big they are! But I love seeing them. And they seem to wear clothing so well. It just drapes so beautifully on them.

I never realised you used to hate sewing. You make some really lovely pieces. It's amazing when hobbies teach us things we would have never thought to try. This is one of the reasons I really love the doll collecting hobby.

Those nails are really good. I love the shape and how you painted them. And as always, lovely photos to oogle (especially that Soom Idealian). I must admit those Soom male bodies are quite nice. I have the older Soom male body (the one that came with Epidos) and it's really nicely sculpted. I love all the detailing on the body.

I feel the same about replacing dolls. You can replace the exact same sculpt but it'll not be the same even if you could get the same face up artist to do the same face up, it will be slightly different because no single work can ever be replicated exactly. I was actually talking about this with my husband last night as I was saying how I am glad all my bjd heads are all painted now and I won't have to send any away for quite some time. That used to always freak me out because I'd always worry if the parcels might get lost in the mail or something.

    1. Yay! I saw that you've answered the questions already, I'll be reading your answers more thoughtfully soon :)

Iplehouse really has beautiful bodies, I like the way they're sculpted and they also pose well enough~ It's true that they're quite big and not as skinny as many other SD bodies, I used to be a bit bothered by the size too, but now I love them XD It can be hard to find clothes that fit them, but they do make such lovely clothing models, I bet they'd look amazing wearing anything!

Yeah I think it's fun how the hobby can teach us new things :)

Oh thank you! ♥ Fake nails for dolls are quite fun to make~ I keep forgetting that I have one Soom Idealian too ^^; Male dolls don't seem to get so much attention from me, I find them somehow more difficult than females. But Soom's male bodies are really nice indeed!

Yeah exactly... And especially if you get emotionally attached to a doll, it wouldn't feel the same if you try to replace it with another doll ^^; A bit like with pets.

  3. Oh yayyy! Thank you so much for tagging me! I was just reading this tag on other blogs yesterday and was like "Hnnngg, I hope someone tags me to do this!!" :D Yes!

Wow that walk-in closet for storing dolls sounds awesome! I'd love to have a little doll room like that. Like a secret little cupboard for your favorite and important stuff.

I'd really like to see Annabelle the movie too. :'D Maybe I'll see if it's on Netflix and we'll watch it with my friend to get into the Halloween-atmosphere. ^^

I hope you can get Mullu someday! And grey Cuprit, that'd be really beautiful *__*

    1. You're welcome! Looking forward to reading your answers :)

Yeah, we probably seem more like "normal" people if any guests don't see our little doll room X'D It's quite handy too since there are so many dolls... I don't think we could've fit them to this apartment if it weren't for that walk-in closet!

I do recommend watching Annabelle :D It wasn't amazing or anything, but still a movie that you should see at least once and it would fit the Halloween atmosphere perfectly~

      I hope so too! I keep wishing ;3;

    1. Great to hear :) I love working on nails, my own ones are really short so the doll nails are like some sort of therapy for me hahah XD
Thank YOU for tagging me, really enjoyed this one~

  5. It's very interesting to read the first question especially! I think this hobby has had a profound impact on many of us ~
I love those nail mods you did @o@ I adore long nails~
That fear about fire is one that haunts me as well T___T; I'd probably save my dolls first in a fire. LOL

    1. I think so too, the doll hobby can introduce us to many new things - for some it can be the crafting side, for some the photography, etc. It can be such a meaningful and important hobby, even though it might seem very simple and shallow to some people :)

Thank you! ♥ I really love long nails too~ I've had the bad habit of biting my own nails for years (whenever I'm anxious, nervous, etc.) so they never grow as long as I'd like, but at least I get to make my dolls' nails all pretty XD

It's probably quite a common fear among doll owners >.< I'd try to save my dolls in a fire first too XD

Oli mukavaa lukea sinunkin vastaukset tähän. :)

    1. Soomin keijukaiset on kyllä niin kauniita! ♥ Niitä on jokunen päässyt tänne kertymään, kun tuntuvat viihtyvän laumassa ^^; Ne näyttävät kyllä hyllyssä nätiltä ihan "koristeinakin", mutta oon itse myös tykännyt kuvata niitä - etenkin kun noissa on aika kivasti eri vuodenaikoja edustettuna :) Pitäisikin käydä ulkona syyskeijuni kanssa ennen kuin talvi tulee...

  9. Those nails are gorgeous! Just gorgeous <3

Haha, it's funny how you mention EID and nYID, I prefer the SID body >w< But they're all pretty in my opinion.
I don't think I have ever given much thought to the Idealian72, but now that I see it, it is indeed gorgeous!

Interesting you say that it wouldn't be the same doll if you bought a replacement as the same sculpt. I have no problem reshelling or buying the same sculpt, but I've seen several people saying the same. I love how different we as doll collectors all are. :D It's so inspirering seeing how everyone else feel.

I'm looking forward to the Halloween shoot :D

I have Trypophobia and I've had the exact same problem with that doll D:

    1. Thanks so much <3

      Hahah, we actually just discussed the different Iplehouse bodies with Sarg XD I think they're all pretty too, but somehow I find myself liking the SID body the least among these three. I love the narrow waist and curvy hips of nYID, especially~ The Idealian72 is just gorgeous ;3; I keep forgetting that I have one Idealian guy too hahah, I don't get along so well with male characters in my own crew that I tend to neglect them a bit ;___;

There can be so many kinds of opinions in this thing! :D I wonder what it is that makes me feel so emotionally attached to a doll that it wouldn't feel the same if it wasn't exactly that same doll... It must be the characters somehow, since I don't feel that way with figures, plushies or other collectables.

Hopefully we get everything ready in time for Halloween ^^

Yeah it's quite terrifying if you're scared of that sort of thing...

  10. Well that was jolly interesting Safir. Great nails, but they would worry the hell out of me in case they broke. Fire seems to concern us all, let's hope none of us ever have to face losing our dolls.

    1. Actually one of my dolls recently fell and her nail broke, but it was easy to glue back :'D I'm usually quite careful with my dolls and haven't had any incidents with the nails before. Epoxy is surprisingly sturdy!

Yeah let's hope that none of us would ever have to go through something awful like that :/
